Fast food, microwave dinners, CVS minute clinics, and DVRs – you name it, everything is speeding up. People are demanding and expecting to get what they want faster than ever. No one wants to wait anymore. And why should you when you can get it faster, right?
Society has conditioned us to believe that faster is better. In some instances that may be true. However, when it comes to your business, you can’t pop it into the microwave for 2 minutes and expect a gourmet dinner. I appreciate the speed and convenience that microwaves afford us but when it comes to my business I choose profits over speed and convenience.
I’m surprised by the number of business owners that want the mountaintop but don’t want to put in the time and effort to take the journey up the mountain. Instead, they’d prefer a commercial jet to take them right to the top. The journey up the mountain is where you grow, learn and become the person you need to be to serve your clients and customers. Businesses are built in the journey. It’s where the foundation, strategy and action plan for success are designed.
As you take the journey up the mountain, remember to celebrate your wins and successes as you build the business of your dreams. At the end of each month, I review my list of wins and successes. This is a great reminder that even when things don’t go as planned there’s still reason to celebrate. Don’t be afraid to shift directions and change course if you’re not getting the results you’d like.
