Who is Katrina Simmons?
I would have to say I am many things to the world. From being a mother of 3, sister, best friend, business partner and love… to being a fierce, strong and ever growing confident business woman. I embrace my free-spirit, curiosity and loyal qualities. I am dedicated to helping people fulfill their purpose by utilizing their spiritual gifts as called by God. There is no greater joy to me than helping someone fulfill their dreams and do things they thought were impossible. This is what drives me to get out of bed in the morning and stay up late at night. That light and passion is essential to who I am.
Tell us about your business.
My company is called Gifted Minds, LLC and I operate as a business development consultant, start-up strategist. My focus is to help those seeking to embody their passion and purpose and turn it into a profitable business. My goal is to utilize my legal background and business expertise to help people turn their dreams into realities.
Why did you start your business?
I always say Gifted Minds was God founded. At a time in my life when I was going through a tough life situation, God spoke to me and told me I was called to help those seeking to utilize the gifts he had given them to build his kingdom. He called me to help him build. During my time of forming Gifted Minds I utilized my legal background and business expertise to create a company that would serve both for and non-profits. Everything I did not know, God provided and directed me to. This is what birthed Gifted Minds, LLC.
What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?
Oh definitely the freedom of being able to explore and learn all sorts of new things and then to utilize that information to help others. I have the freedom to make my own schedule and determine what is and is not important. To be able to have the opportunity to never miss time with my children and enjoy the moments of life we often take for granted when in corporate America.
What has been the most challenging aspect of being an entrepreneur?
For me it has been changing my mentality from corporate employee to business owner. I was so used to having clients seek me out, it felt incredibly uncomfortable for me to have to reverse roles and actively go for the sale. To sale my services and skills and reach out to strangers. To open myself up to the NOs and still push forward to the YES. But I get better everyday and enjoy the ride.
Share some of your success and highlights since starting your business.
Oh so many! I have closed deals with more clients than anticipated in my first quarter as a full time entrepreneur and have recently been asked to speak on podcasts, conferences and host virtual courses. I have one new client who just fully launched her new product line and another who is upgrading her business by creating her intake process. All things I was not expecting so soon, but I am definitely loving it. I also just accepted the opportunity to represent a musician as a booking agent. Something I was not anticipating but am excited to move forward with.
What would you tell another woman that is considering starting a business?
Don’t let anyone tell you what you cannot do or who you are. Stay focused on that fire within and that will be what propels you to success.
