Whether you’re a new or seasoned business owner, you’ve probably wondered what to charge or wanted to charge more. The dialogue probably went a little something like this, “I can’t charge more because I’ll lose clients and if I lose clients, I won’t make any money and if I don’t make any money, I won’t be able to pay my bills, and if I’m not able to pay my bills, I’ll have to go get a job.”
The negative chatter, “Foxy”, as I like to call her, shows up when it appears that you may be leaving your comfort zone.
By definition, comfort is defined as content and undisturbed; at ease. And content is defined as satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else. If that is true, by definition your comfort zone would be a place of total and absolute fulfillment.
When you find yourself making excuses for why you can’t charge more, that’s the negative chatter, “Foxy” speaking. It will be extremely difficult to accelerate your profits and grow your business if “Foxy” is making all the decisions. It’s important to understand that Foxy wants to protect you from the bad that might happen so she floods your mind with messages of doubt and fear.
Below are some of the ways Foxy keeps you from charging more:
- Unclear about the results and value of your work
- Lack of confidence
- Fear that no one will buy
- Believe this is all your ideal client can afford
- Afraid you’ll lose clients
If you want to increase your fees, the actions you choose must be in alignment with this result. That is the only way to silence the negative chatter in your head. Once you silence Foxy you’ll be able to charge more. As a result, your income will increase.
