Building a business is a lot like putting a puzzle together. You can clearly see how some of the pieces fit together while some of the others leave you stuck. Business systems are key resources for every entrepreneur that’s trying to put the puzzle pieces together, without working harder.
You can literally have a system for every area of your business. When you look at your to-do list and don’t know how you’re going to get it all done, that’s a sign that you need to look your systems. It may also be a sign that you need to hire an assistant. But for now, we’ll focus on enhancing or putting systems in place.
The most common reason systems don’t work is that they aren’t used at all or they aren’t used consistently. Systems do what we can’t do and they support us in serving current and potential clients/customers. In addition to that they eliminate overwhelm and frustration and they save you time and make you money.
There are countless tasks that we as business owners strive to accomplish daily. These tasks can be broken down into two categories – revenue or nonrevenue producing. When you’re building a business how you utilize your time will determine whether you achieve or fall short of your profit goals. One system I love is Hootsuite. It saves you time because you don’t have to log in and update each of your social media accounts manually. It will update your social media accounts daily and help you stay connected to your community. Now what can we do with that additional time? Get on the phone and make money!
How much is an hour of your time worth? If you’ve decided that an hour of your time is worth $500, do you want to update your Facebook status or close a business deal worth thousands of dollars? You may not close a deal every hour of the day but you don’t know what’s possible until you give it a try.
