“I don’t like math!”
I’m sure you’ve heard these statements or said them yourself a time or two. I’m a numbers girl and I understand that we’re all born with a unique set of talents and abilities. I also know that our dislikes are usually the result of an unfavorable experience in our lives or the lives of those around closest to us. The reality is that a past experience could be robbing you of the success you desire and deserve in the present.
Successful entrepreneurs know that an essential part of their business survival depends on understanding the numbers even if they weren’t born mathematical geniuses. When you say, “I don’t like numbers,” is it possible that you just don’t understand them? The things you like and enjoy are most often things that you do well and feel comfortable doing.
Think about the anxiety you felt the first time you made a sales call, hosted a live event, or launched a new product/service. Over time that anxiety turned to confidence, right? Your confidence will increase as you continue doing what you once thought you couldn’t do or didn’t like doing. Sometimes, it’s not that we don’t like something, it’s that we don’t understand it and we retreat to saying we don’t like it to avoid failure, embarrassment or rejection. All of which can keep you from getting results in your business.
As the first half of 2015 comes to a close, I want to encourage you to pause and review your business results. Waiting until the end of the year to review your progress will be too late to implement change and impact the current year financially.
Below are 3 key questions to consider as you review your business results:
- What strategies are/aren’t working?
- What new action (s) do I need to take to achieve my revenue and profit goals?
- What support do I need to stay on track and finish the year strong?
