Some business owners love it and then there are those that absolutely hate it. Sales. It’s a skill that every small business owner must have no matter the size of your business or what industry you serve. You must sell if you want to generate revenue and yes, obviously profit.
Selling is simply a conversation. The potential client shares what they need a solution to or what they want to change and you, the business owner share what it is you do and the solution you provide. It’s really very simple but we attach our personal feelings and experiences to the sales conversation that creates a negative connotation that can impact our business success.
Whether you love sales or not, below are 3 tips to help you close more sales and put more money in your bank account.
- Client Success Stories – create a list of client success stories / testimonials highlighting the results they’ve experienced. “What happened for them as a result of using your products and/or services? How was their life and/or business transformed?” Use those results and experiences to show a potential client that you understand where they are and that you have a proven solution to get them where they want to be.
- Sales Script – use a sales script during all sales conversations – face to face or over the phone. If you’re face to face, you wouldn’t pull the script out (at least, I don’t advise it) but you should still cover the elements in your written script. Using a script keeps you focused and will help keep your emotions from driving the conversation. Don’t read it verbatim but use it to guide the conversation.
- Focus On The Potential Client – the conversation is about them and what they want to change in their life and/or business. If you’re focused on serving them and their needs you don’t have time to worry about how you feel. The more time you spend focused on them, the less time you have to focus on the negative chatter in your head.
Remember, it’s a conversation. The more conversations you have the more money you’ll make.
